Marquez stuns Diaz in nine

Juan Manuel Marquez proved he is the best lightweight in the world by stopping Juan Diaz live on Setanta Sports.

After a dramatic night of boxing, this bout had a lot to live up to but certainly did so and more.

Marquez's victory earned him the WBA/WBO/Ring Magazine titles and also gave voice to his claims to be the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.

Round 9: Juan Manuel Marquez stops Juan Diaz in incredible fashion! Marquez began the round confidently but Diaz bulled his way back into the round landing repetitive jabs before Marquez landed with a flurry which included a big overhand right and left uppercut which led to Diaz falling into the ropes and to the canvas. Diaz beat the count but soon afterwards Marquez measured him with a ferocious uppercut that sent Diaz crashing to the floor. The referee waved the bout off immediately. read more
